Stupid question, but--

If one legally owns guns and/or magazines that cannot be bought in California prior to moving, can he move the guns there?

Are the bans against possession as well as purchase?

Most guns yes but magazines no as I understand it.

No magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.

There is an approved handgun list but if axmake and model is not approved. That merely means an ordinary person cannot buy one at retail. Someone can legally possess one, and sell it to someone else. LEOs are able to buy handguns not on the approved list. When I lived there, you could not put a non approved handgun on your CCW permit, if you could get one.

Assault rifles are a whole nuther bag of crap. I think the best source is CalGuns.net.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Yes you can unless they fall under the "Assault Rifle" definition...IE: threaded muzzle on handguns.

The "Ban" on unsafe handguns only applies to importation for retail sale

The law has no effect on possession

Just an FYI. Unless something has changed you will have to register your handguns and pay a nice fee for the privilege.

I left anti gun New York for free America ( Arizona ) a couple years ago. Having lived under extreme oppression of my gun rights and now experiencing free America there is a VERY short list of reasons to move into the lion’s den ( take your pick NYNJCA etc)
Temporary visit to help a sick or dying relative or friend
Mandatory transfer due to federal government work or military assignment
No other reason I can think of !!
