Per an email from Virginia Citizens Defense League

The Atlanta airport administration has decided to spit on a new
Georgia state law and continue a ban on guns in the public, non-
sterile areas of its airport!

Because the airport is asking the TSA to setup a nationwide regulation
banning guns on airport property, including the public, non-sterile
areas!!!

No more leaving a gun in your car while you catch a flight. No more
carrying a gun in parking lots or on public sidewalks at airports. No
more having a gun in your car as you drive to the airport to pick
someone up or drop them off.

We must contact the TSA and the President and Vice President and ask
them to keep the U.S. Government from implementing such a ban!

Send an email using the three addresses below. Suggested text is
included.

SUBJECT: Leave state law alone on lawful gun carry in airports!

Dear President Bush, Vice President Cheney, and TSA Administrator
Hawley:

I am concerned that big city officials from Atlanta and elements of
the anti-gun movement are moving to misuse federal power to accomplish
what they cannot do in state capitols - i.e., criminalize gun carry in
the public and non-sterile areas of airports.

The vast majority of state legislatures support the right to carry
handguns in public, including the non-sterile areas of airports. Any
effort to reverse these state law decisions by way of the federal
bureaucracy insults federalism and the right to bear arms.

According to the Supreme Court in the Heller decision the right to
keep and bear arms is an individual right and, "[a]t the time of the
founding, as now, to 'bear' meant to “'carry.'”

Please ensure the TSA stays out of gun ban politics in Atlanta and
across the Unites States!

Sincerely,

I wonder what will happen with folks who travel with a gun in their checked baggage?

Thanks for the reminder. I just posted the court ruling against CCW at the Atlanta Airport.

They can ask all they want, but it takes a little more than that to get an administrative law drafted into the Code of Federal Regulations. I also seriously doubt that TSA wants to take on the responsibility for enforcing MORE regulations over a LARGER area, they can barely handle what they already have. There were discussions early on about TSA absorbing airport/port LE agencies that are already responsible for enforcing state and local laws in the facilities, and that didn't go very far at all. Plus, there is no indication that any consideration was made for exactly how this expansion should be funded.

It's just another gratuitous pointless political gesture.

Who is actually stupid enough to do this anyhow? Airport parking areas have high vehicle break in rates. This is irresponsible.

I agree with Sendec... Yes, I'm serious. I don't see this going very far at all. Still, I see nothing wrong with contacting representatives & letting them know that you think it's a stupid idea. In my case, this would be pointless however, since both Senators are left-wing nutjobs.

In that case I take back everything I said, and mean the exact opposite. Wink

And I agree with your point about leaving anything in a car at the airport, unless its a dead body and the driver needs to catch a flight out of the country. People will steal the air out of your tires.
