What happens if you move to a state like NJ because you get stationed there?
What do you have to do with your ARs and silencers? Is it best to leave them with a family member in a a happy state? Can I even have an AR in NJ if its "not built" _______________________ The question is not how far; the question is do you possess the constitution, the depth of faith, to go as far as is needed." i live in NY, another "friendly" state and have an AR. You just need to make sure that it meets the state's specs. In NY that's mags with a capacity of 10 rounds, no folding stock, etc. If your AR doesn't meet the state requirements, leave it out of state. As for silencers, leave those out of state or you'll be in a world of hurt.

You should be allowed AR's in NJ if you legally own it in NY. But, you may need to get a NJ FID card to substantiate residency within this un-free state and thereby owning this AR. NJ is hung up on FID cards.
The AR cannot have the usual "assault" rifle do-hickies like, flash hider, THREADED BARREL, bayonett lug, collapsible stock, 16" barrel minimum and so on... You are allowed 15-rd mags here (I have US made, 15-rd from SureFire, LLC Mags). Which I have for my "AK" which was bought in NJ and converted (pistol grip, fixed stock etc.) and made NFA/922r compliant and is FULLY legal for BOTH Federal & NJ. Real Bulgarian 'AK's' are sold here as well. Collapsible M4 stocks ARE legal here ON A SHOTGUN. Was a NICE Mossberg M500 tactical 12-gauge I saw here for $360 locally. Check the NJ State Police website (virulent anti-gunners). Sig P226 CPO 9mm(W. Where did you get the 15 Round AR Mags? I've been looking for something like that for a while. I found one place online but they were really crappy and you could only get 14 in. I liked that they used Magpul anti tilt followers and were full size. Other then that they sucked and didn't work to good... Do they work well? WE WIN 06.26.2008 WE LOSE 11.04.2008 |

They are NOT mags for AR's. They are 15-round "AK" mags for 7.62x39mm. Sig P226 CPO 9mm(W. German) HK45 Compact .45ACP V1 Hk P2000 .357SIG LEM (LE) Hk P2000 9mm LEM Rossi R462-R2 2" .357 Magnum Hk Fabarm FP6 - 12 ga. pump Saiga 7.62 - 16" bbl Saiga .308 - 16" bbl |

Read this:
http://www.state.nj.us/lps/dcj/agguide/assltf.htm It's as close as you will come to an official statement on the NJ assault weapons law outside of the list of banned weapons. If the weapon is not on the statutory list of banned items (http://www.njguns.com/define.htm) this should explain what's legal or not. BTW, here is a statement from the NJ state police on why ARs are supposedly okay: http://www.state.nj.us/njsp/about/fire_ag1.html Any doubts or questions, talk to a NJ gun store (I recommend Meltzers in Garfield -- they're nice guys) or Evan Nappen, Esq., the state's foremost firearms attorney. Good luck. ===================== "The knights ride east, the knights ride west, For ladyes' tokens blithe of cheer, Each bound upon some gallant quest; While I rust here." |

As previously stated all of the AR’s sold in New Jersey are solid or fixed stocks, 10 round magazines and no flash suppressor. There is only one AR range that I know of.
I would be very careful here. The attitude of the police towards civilian firearms is take it away now and figure it out later. Even thought there is no restriction of knife size, many police enforce the 4 fingers, or 4” rule on legal blade length. Don’t get caught with a weapon in your car unless it’s registered to you, you possess a valid Firearms ID card, and you have a very legitimate reason why it’s with you. I do not believe that New Jersey honors any other States concealed carry permits either, even though 14 States honor ours. |

So from what I can tell my RRA NM AR is not legal.

Where's that, if you don't mind my asking? The Bullet Hole in Belleville will let you shoot 'em in there. I'm always looking for new places. ===================== "The knights ride east, the knights ride west, For ladyes' tokens blithe of cheer, Each bound upon some gallant quest; While I rust here." |

I didn’t know that the Bullet Hole allowed AR. I familiar with it, but I have not shot there. I belong to a private range that does not allow them, only pistol, shotgun and .22, all indoor. Here is the information on Cherry Ridge. I have been there as a guest and it’s a nice range: Highland Lakes - Cherry Ridge Range (ANJRPC), Canistear Road and Range Road, Highland Lakes, NJ 07422. Phone: 973-764-4100 Facilities include: Outdoor Pistol (50 yds), Outdoor Rifle (100 to 300 yds), Trap, Skeet |

Thanks. I belong to ANJRPC and I agree Cherry Ridge is very nice but it ends up kind of being difficult to get to. Bullet Hole will let you shoot pretty much anything in there except black powder. They also say they don't like foreign ammo which I always took to mean Wolf and the like. It's a short range and the times I've been in there, kind of a zoo. I'm not a big fan of the place but if I want to shoot my AR and don't feel like driving to Pennsylvania or Cherry Ridge, it's the only place I know of. Normally, I'll drive out to Ray's but no rifles above .22 there either. Thanks again. I'm pretty sure the public range at Ft Dix allows 223/5.56 and larger rifle calibers.
Its pretty cheap too http://www.dixmwr.com/Recreation%20_Facilities/Rod%20&%...20Club/Fees_Home.htm _______________________ The question is not how far; the question is do you possess the constitution, the depth of faith, to go as far as is needed." Il Duce |
