For Seattle members, wanted to let you know that I received a legal briefing at work stating that the 1977 SMC prohibition for carrying in Seattle parks will be officially repealed shortly. Most know that the SMC is invalid due to state preemption, however it will officially be taken off the books in a while.

I'll post an update when it becomes available, and if I am permitted to disseminate any official directives I will do so.

I think the timing of this is interesting in light of Mayor Nickels' efforts to ban weapons from Seattle City property.

Keep your fingers crossed!

Yes... the timing is interesting & it makes me wonder if saner minds are moving to avoid possible future litigation by moving this forward now.

(Do you have any idea how many times I've violated the SMC prohibition?) Roll Eyes About 10 years ago Seattle began a posting program... since virtually none of the parks had previously been posted with NO WEAPONS signs.

Realistically, I cannot think of that many Seattle parks where I wouldn't want to be carrying. Seward, Myrtle Edwards, Colman, Laeridge, Gennesee... they're all gang or wannabee hangouts now.

I'd appreciate any work you do keeping us posted on tihis. Thanks.

Christuan, may I email you about employment with your employers?

Also this is good news. I plan to head out that way for graduate school.

For the record, it never was even in effect. Never was attempted to be enforced.

It's ironic that they're repealing one invalid parks ban while Mayor Nickels is pushing for a second invalid ban.
