I have a permit and all my guns are legally mine no issues there. I was just trying to figure out a easier way to carry all my stuff to the range without having many seperate boxes as I now have a range bag. From what I recall the ammo and gun are suppose to be seperate. Ie gun in box upfront and ammo in trunk, etc. Neat. But am I allowed to say pack my guns and ammo in the same bag/case (or two seperate cases) and keep them in the trunk together? From what I recall gun and ammo = a nono but in a trunk technically its inaccessible so is that legal then? Thanks! Smile

As a Connecticut resident and permit holder, if you're traveling to and from the range in state, you don't have to segregate your ammo from your firearms. The mode of firearms/ammo transportation you've described is for interstate travel and doesn't apply to you. In regards to intrastate travel, there are no restrictions. I alway keep my guns, mags, and ammo in the same range bag. I will travel with the range bag in the trunk or on the passenger seat.

Really! Then I wonder where I read/heard that they need to be seperated. Hmmmmmm... Well this sure does make things easier since the bag I bought from Midway is pretty big. Thanks! Big Grin

Here's a link to the CT statues:
http://cga.ct.gov/2007/pub/Chap529.htm#Sec29-35.htm

And this one's the Dept. of Public Safety:
http://www.ct.gov/dps/site/default.asp

Browse through them, lots of good info.

And yeah, the Midway bag is pretty big. It would be such a waste to seperate your shooting supplies when you can pack-up your supplies in one place.

Thanks for all the info! What part of the state are you in anyways? I keep looking for shooting buddies the once in awhile that I do go. Most of mine don't go very often. Like twice a year if that. I myself try to go at least once every month or two at most! Smile

You're welcome. Try to read over the state statues on Connecticut's gun laws (the first link), so that you can understand gun laws as they DO apply and not simply going with what you heard from someone else. Handgun laws can vary greatly from one state to another (for example compare ours to New York, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts). The best thing for you to do is to understand your state's gun and self defense laws.

As per location, I'm in southern Fairfield county. But I can't go shooting with you....I injured my hand/forearm back in May, and I'm doing physical therapy now (which isn't going well). Basically I'm sidelined from shooting and a bunch of other activities. Thanks though.

I actually have read a good bit as most people like to pull the "its a concealed state" bs but I always tell them to show me the proof and what not. No dice! Smile Not sure where I heard/read the part about ammo and guns seperate thing. Thought I read it on the internet at some point but who knows. Maybe I got confused and somehow it still stuck in my head. And yeah I know about New Yorks and Masses "fun" laws! Yikes! Thanks for your help and patience. Good luck with your injury hope it gets better soon!
