Gun laws may haved KO’d plot

By O’Ryan Johnson | Thursday, October 22, 2009

Bay State gun shops operate under some of the strictest laws in the nation when it comes to providing firepower to the public.

Federal investigators said that in the case of Tarek Mehanna, the inability to get an assault rifle likely jammed his alleged plot to pull off a shopping mall massacre somewhere in Massachusetts.

“Massachusetts is not a firearm-friendly state,” said Robert Kalil, who manages Gun and Sport North. Since 1953, the shop had been located in Lawrence, where it has sold a variety of handguns, rifles, police supplies and taught safety classes.

But in August, Kalil said the shop moved up the road to Salem, N.H., because the Bay State’s gun laws were choking its business.

He said he is not surprised the alleged terrorist had trouble buying an assault rifle since Massachusetts kept intact the Brady Bill, which barred the sale of the firearms to all but those with the most exclusive licenses.

He said Massachusetts also restricts components on hunting rifles and prevents them from carrying more than 10 rounds or being outfitted with a flash suppressor at the end of the barrel, which could give the weapon the appearance of being an assault rifle.

Even those who might buy the powerful weapons must submit to a firearm safety class, a thorough backround check and a wait of 30 and 90 days for a permit.

So because the guy wasn't smart enough to leave the state or obtain a illegal weapon there their big wacky laws saved lives!? Good one! FUCK MA period! I used to ride my bike there and hated having to leave my pistol at home and then since they signed that swine flu forced inoculation crap into law I've been just avoiding that state PERIOD. This also doesn't help btw. The flipside of this is that IF the guy did do what I mentioned if he had more then one brain cell in his head then more people would have died because of the silly restrictions in MA on its residents when it comes to firearms but of course that would have never come up! The moron in the article (the terrorist, not the reporter, who is also a moron - I apologize for the confusing descriptor) sought to buy post-'86 machine guns, not a semi-automatic rifles that are similar in appearance (but not function) to a military assault rifle.

I suspect that the licensee he approached (that he made this request to federal firearms licensee was stated in a radio report I heard) reported his stupid ass (again, the terrorist, not the reporter, who is also a stupid ass, once again, I apologize for any confusion) to BATFE.

In either case, the stupid ass that wrote the article (the reporter this time) knows nothing about firearms or firearms law beyond that which he learned watching The Matrix.

I don't have the time right now to go and research the author of the article, the story, etc. but I'd be willing to stick my neck out there and throw the:

The only reason he had such a hard time getting a machine gun was because they are are being shipped to Mexico right now.

No shipped to Texas, sold in bulk lots as a package deal with an M-203 and 500 40mm HEDP grenades, and smuggled into Mexico.

Smuggled nothing! The gun store I worked for in Dallas had a great big 18 wheeler with our logo emblazoned on every square inch. We would just stuff the trailer chock full of AR's, AK's and any class 3 we couldn't sell at a profit and tear down to Juarez and just hand off the guns to the street kids right out the back. Sort of an adopt a gun kind of thing, like you see with the people with puppies on the side of the road. It always reminded me of the scene from Rudolph when all the misfit toys get good homes. I'd always head back stateside a little choked up knowing we did some good. We must of made that run 4 or 5 times a week, and twice on Cinqo de Mayo! Big Grin
