Concealed gun permit returned to soccer mom
Other parents didn't like her wearing an exposed pistol.
By Martha Raffaele

Of The Associated Press

October 15, 2008

A mother who angered fellow parents when she wore a holstered pistol at her 5-year-old daughter's soccer game got her concealed weapons permit back Tuesday after a judge overruled a sheriff's decision to revoke it.

Meleanie Hain testified that she did not intend to intimidate anyone, but felt she had to carry the gun openly because warm-weather clothing made it difficult to hide a firearm. She said her husband's line of work, which was not disclosed, made her a ''greater target'' than the average person.

Lebanon County Judge Robert Eby said the law required him to return Hain's permit, but he questioned her judgment.

''Fear doesn't belong at a kid's soccer game from any source,'' Eby said.

Hain lost the permit after other parents complained last month that she was openly carrying a loaded and holstered handgun at her daughter's soccer game.

A youth soccer coach said he approached Hain at the Sept. 11 game and asked her to move to the other side of the field, away from the sideline where the children were standing.

''I'm certainly not looking to shoot anyone over a goal,'' Hain told Eby on Tuesday.

Lebanon County Sheriff Michael DeLeo said he pulled Hain's license after fielding the parents' complaints.

A couple dozen courtroom spectators broke out in a light applause when the judge issued his decision.

George Christianson, DeLeo's lawyer, said the decision would not be appealed.

Hain said she was satisfied with the result and expected to return to the sidelines -- with her gun -- at a youth soccer game in the future.

''It's my preference,'' she said.

Good news. I have a feeling she won't be seeing the end of this since she will still be carrying at the games.

American has become just like old Europe--a land of peasants who must be kept in their place, submissive and defenseless

Texas Fats

Governments are about the acquisition, exercise, and extention of the power of an elite to exploit peasants for fun and profit.

I wonder why there was grounds for fear. Was she waving the gun around with a finger on the trigger? What was she doing that scared people? Surely they're not saying that the mere presence of the gun scared people, if that were the case, they'd be terrified all the time, what with on- and off-duty police walking about. So what factual basis was there for that comment? I'd think the folks at the soccer game would be gratified that there was someone there who was ready, willing, and able to protect the children should need arise.

Big Victory here in Penna.

I also like the fact that this helps in the open carry arena.

I open carry all the time here in PA and also in NV. Both states are great when it comes to open carry laws.

She didn't do anything with the gun. The site of the gun made the sheeple quiver. Funny thing revocation didn't do squat. She still was able to open carry, her revocation only prevented transport loaded .. go figure.

Seeing the end of what? A judge just ordered the Sheriff to return her permit... Do you think the Sheriff is dumb enough to try to pull her permit again?

The only thing that could happen is that her kid gets kicked off the team. Depending on how the leagues' policy is worded; that could be up for a discrimination case.

Will one less box of ammo, this month, kill you?
No, but the money could save a child's life...
