Hypothetically speaking…what if… I was up in Northern Nevada for a week of camping, shooting and fishing. On my way back I decided to drive through CA (Walker River, Bishop etc) since I had not driven that way in awhile...What if halfway through the drive it dawned on me that the firearms I had in my truck may not “CA friendly” (an AR and numerous pistols).

I wonder what kind of outcome there would be in this situation... if I was then pulled over for speeding and asked about firearms?

In doing a little research it would appear I would be fine under the "Safe passage" provision of the Firearm Owners' Protection Act (FOPA). Thoughts? Would like to hear input from officers in CA.

IANAL, but if you must drive through a state with guns that are illegal to possess in that state, pack you guns IAW the Gun Owner's Protection Act (i.e., unloaded, in a locked case, no loaded magazines, all ammo in locked case, guns and ammo inaccesible to passengers in vehicle), do not speed or violate any traffic law, do not stop for any reason whatsoever and drive straight through.

If stopped keep you mouth shut. You are not required to answer any question save for giving your name. You do not have to consent to a search of your vehicle, unless there is a warrant. Sign the ticket with a smile.

Or just don't run the risk of being accused of possessing illegal firearms by staying the hell out of that shithole.

if you have to drive through CA leave the AR at home IMHO its just not worth it. im fairly sure that if you have a non complient AR in your car no matter how much it is locked up you will go to jail for a while and you wont see your AR or other guns for a while (if ever.)

if you have more questions or want better answers go to calguns.net and ask.
