I won't pretend to know much about Pakistan.
There are countries where people can own full auto real AK-47. Iraq is one of them, believe it or not. The arms flea market is there in Pakistan, and this is well documented and even televised. I don't think they really care who they sell it to. In those kind of countries you might be able to get hands on weapons such as assault rifles. And, it there may not even be a law against it. But, there also lies the danger. Non existent r ambiguous law, and questionable people in power who can make up and force any law on a whim. The higher risk comes from possession of weapon it self than what kind of weapon you have. If they find your possession of the rifle not to their liking, it won't matter if your AR-15 or AK is select fire or semi auto. They might just confiscate it, or even worse detain you. And, it can get even worse from there. According to a magazine article by a civilian contractor, this is the problem they are facing with new Afghan local government. If a government U.S. set up is that way, expect your treatment to be worse in other unstable areas. But, not having weapons in those area also carries a serious risk, being kidnapped then getting your head chopped off for one. So, it's a no win situation. That's why I won't even go there unless I have to. And, if one of the local police or soldiers look at your short barrel rifle and think it's a neat little gun, they might decide you can't have it. If you have some ties with the local government, or junta or whatever, in an area where they have control then it might be more safe to have a weapon. In a relative sense of course. Is it legal? It might be. But, written law, if there is one, has very little, if any, meaning in those kind of regions. Connections might be more important. |

Gun laws and Pakistan seem like a huge oxymoron.
"Remember, a superior gunman is best defined as one who regularly uses his superior judgment and communication skills, so he doesn't find himself in situations which require the use of his superior gun and tactical skills!" Quote by John Farnam |
