Anybody familiar with the gun Laws in Pakistan? I've emailed the consulate but I am looking for people with personal experience. Reading news articles it seems that legal gun ownership including Full auto is gaining popularity due to the violence there.

has anybody traveled abroad with Title II (class 3) firearms? If i could bring my short barrel shotgun i just might. I am more worried about our laws, i.e bringing it back into the country.

How is is that I can legally buy a grenade launcher but not a Swiss semiauto rifle?

Just buy an AK for $100. Wink

Seriously though, here's a little bit of info to get started:

You'll have to take this on faith, but unless you are in the military or LE you aren't getting into a foreign country with a C3 weapon and it can be a little dicey even then.

Bad idea. And you are right, getting it back into the States will involve a warm reception from the good folks at DHS/ICE.

I didn't know that gun ownership was getting more popular in Pakistan, I thought everybody already had a half dozen AKs. If you have to pay $100 for one there, you are getting ripped off. Well, maybe that much for an actual, factory made AK, but there are plenty of guys who will make you one with a file, a rusty fender off of a 1960s Daihatsu 3-wheeler and the springs from a wind-up alarm clock.

already read the wiki for what its worth. another country might not distinguish between a shotgun and a short barrel shotgun like we do here.

I'm not trying to break any laws here. a shotgun might be allowed in but a military style semiauto carbine might not be.

i'm waiting on the consulate anyway. i'll consult with the ATF before i try it.

Legally not a problem as long as you can prove you took it out of the country.

Or an AK/Bren hybrid bolt-action in .303:

Honestly, if you are considering bringing a weapon and your job isn't providing it, I would consider switching jobs...

I think trying to bring a weapon like that overseas is going to get you a lot of time sitting in a room with no windows, waiting to get asked questions (even if it is perfectly legal to do so)... not to mention bringing the ammo to feed it... if you need something that bad, I'd considering buying a throwaway gun in country...

I am Federal LE, assigned to provide protection to a senior US military commander who travels to Pakistan (too) frequently. I travel on a Diplomatic Passport. Officially, even I can't carry a gun in Pakistan.

I once flew out of Pakistan on commercial air with a single UNLOADED Sig M11 magazine in the deep bottom of my checked luggage, and spent about six of some of the worst hours of my life talking my way out of Pakistani prison. Took a direct intervention from the US Ambassador to the President of Pakistan to keep me out of jail.

You do NOT want to take any firearms to Pakistan, if you are not a Pakistani citizen...

On a related note, there's not a crappy, dangerous country in the world that I haven't been to in the last several years with my Boss. Of every crappy, dangerous place I've ever been, the place I would go to LAST if I had any choice in the matter is Pakistan. Islamabad is just barely under the control of the central government. Peshawar is an island in a sea of ground controlled by the Taliban. Karachi is the most dangerous place in the world. There are A LOT of people in Pakistan who are ACTIVELY looking for ways to kidnap and kill AMCITs. If you don't HAVE to go, DON'T.

Regards,

Kevin

I recall seeing photos of "AKs" in 8mm Mauser.

LISTEN to Kevin. Before I go anywhere I hit:

And he tends to be a little dramatic ,but Robert Young Pelton's books and site are pretty entertaining:

At least there was a factory model in 8mm Mauser, the Yugo M76.

my wife is Paki. we are looking into going to the FATA (Tank) to volunteer our medical services. With the right clothes I look Peshawari from a distance. i am still apprehensive about it until i found out the details.

tourism website says you can bring sporting firearms and ammo. wonder what that means. I would probably be ok with a shotty if thats the case. would really like to bring one of my pistols though.

still waiting on the offical word from the paki consulate.

Talked to the consulate. i need to fill out an arms license. its online so i guess that means they can turn it down faster. Roll Eyes If they accept it I may bring and carry the firearm stated in the license. the form is funny. it says type of firearm: pistol, revolver, shotgun, rifle. KALASHNIKOV, other. hey i guess AKs are legal there. it says nothing about automatic rifles, short barrel rifles, short barrel shotguns.
very interesting.

Good luck - honestly. I wouldn't set foot inside that area without some friends with weapons and some 24 hour air support. At least Tank doesn't appear to be in the center of that place.

I'd recommend bringing a good sat phone with an American Embassy on speed-dial. That way if things go bad the good guys will know where to start looking.

Getting in a shootout over there is probably going to get you killed, regardless if you get the drop on one of those fools.

But for me, I'd take these guys...

And some of these...

rather be killed than taken hostage. I wish i could bring those guys everywhere. Mexico ranks high on kidnappings too but plenty of people go there.

i married into the culture so i will go eventually. i wanted to go even before i met my wife for the mountaineering.

if i go i definitely plan on traveling in groups, staying with family and friends, not venturing off into known bad areas, etc.

i thought about visiting the arms bazaars for a cheap AK idea but even Pakis avoid them because of the Taliban types that frequent there. plus its hard to conceal an AK.

No doubt on that one. If I'd ever gone down in BG land, I was not going to be taken alive.

That area has some amazing mountains... unbelievable... could be some sweet ski resorts and outdoor adventure camps there...

Good luck if you end up going... it's good that you can blend in, concealment and deception is your friend...

I heard that, I always wanted to hike the Hindu Kush and Karakorams, I just didn't plan on doing it with a platoon and explosive-sniffing dogs.
