URGENT: Under the “cover” of the Coronavirus crisis, Representative Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) and Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) introduced the most austere anti-Second Amendment companion bills in the House and Senate (H.R. 5717 and S. 3254), known as the “Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety Act of 2020.”

Reporting for The New American magazine, Steve Byas summarizes the heavy-handed bill:

What would this bill do, if enacted? H.R. 5717/S. 3254 would create a national permit requirement to buy a gun, establish a national gun registry, institute a national “Red Flag Gun Seizures” law, ban virtually every semi-automatic rifle in private hands in the country, make it a felony to purchase a “high capacity” magazine, tax firearms at 30 percent and ammunition at 50 percent, provide for jail time for anyone who buys more than one gun in a one-month period, force gun owners to lock up their guns at all times, criminalize the sale of any firearm to a person under 21 (despite a person being considered an adult at 18), ban the sale of suppressors, and make it a crime to construct a gun in one’s own home.

These measures are completely unconstitutional, violating the Second Amendment, which explicitly states (emphasis added below):

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Among the many far-reaching provisions in the bill, Section 803 of the draconian bill, under “Increase in excise taxes relating to firearms,” would amend Section 4181 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to read as:

There is hereby imposed upon the sale by the manufacturer, producer, or importer of the following articles a tax equivalent to the specified percent of the price for which so sold:

(1) Articles taxable at 30 percent:

Pistols.
Revolvers.
Firearms (other than pistols and revolvers).
Any lower frame or receiver for a firearm, whether for a semiautomatic pistol, rifle, or shotgun that is designed to accommodate interchangeable upper receivers.
(2) Articles taxable at 50 percent: Shells and cartridges.

It has been our observation at The John Birch Society that shortly after a crisis or national emergency, that massive and unconstitutional bills that vastly increase the size and scope of the federal government that have been previously introduced and lingering in Congress with little-to-no legislative support and co-sponsors are quickly expatiated into law.

Lord-forbid another mass-shooting, heinous act of “domestic terrorism,” pandemic, natural disaster, national emergency or other unforeseeable catastrophe in the United States, the Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety Act or another similar onerous bill could be rushed into law.

On March 10, 2020, as the coronavirus was beginning to come into full swing in the U.S., the House version of the bill (H.R. 5717) was referred to the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security, where it is currently pending further legislative action.

Meanwhile, its Senate companion (S. 3254) was referred to the Senate Finance Committee, on February 10, 2020, also pending.

Rather than waiting only to be completely caught off guard at some future date, we urge you to contact Congress now and demand that your U.S. representative and senators oppose the passage of this bill or any of its provisions in any other similar bill.

Please phone, email, and tweet your U.S. representative and senators and urge them to oppose and vote against the so-called Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety Act. Although we provide a way to easily email members of Congress, we know from long experience that it takes a lot more interaction with your federal legislators to get your point across than that provided by emails alone. That’s why we provide an easy way not only to email them, but to phone, tweet, and even video message them.

Yeah, I feel the same way.

Videos piss me off. They often take 26 minutes to explain something that takes a mere two. The "WATCH TILL THE END" soy boy social media culture loves a build up.

This isn't going anywhere, anyhow.

Hank Johnson is an joke congressman except that he gets to vote, just like a real congressman.
I'm just glad he doesn't represent me. He has his name on stuff like this regularly.
