The only part of the 226 that would have to go through an FFL is the frame. Everything else is a part. Be careful on where you ship magazines, as some states have capacity limits.
You can get drunk enough to do most anything, but you have to realize going in that there are some things that, once you sober up and realize what you have done, will lead you to either grab a 12-gauge or stay drunk for the rest of your life.

You can usually bring your firearm to a local police department for destruction. So I would gut the pistol and surrender a frame to the local cops and let them figure out what they want to do with it.

Or just save yourself the gas money and make sure that it is beyond repair. Will one less box of ammo, this month, kill you? No, but the money could save a child's life...
